This computer science video describes the IEEE 754 standard for floating point binary. The layouts of single precision, double precision and quadruple precision floating point binary numbers are described, including the sign bit, the biased exponent and the mantissa. Examples of how to convert between denary (base 10) and single precision floating point binary numbers are shown, including how to round the mantissa correctly. There are also some example conversions that you can try yourself, along with their solutions. The way the exponent bias works and why this particular technique is used in the IEEE 754 standard, rather than two’s complement, is demonstrated. La norme IEEE 754 décrit comment représenter les nombres binaires réels à virgule flottante. La simple précision consiste à présenter le nombre sur 32 bit et la double précision le permet sur 64 bits. Le code binaire représenté est divisé en 3 blocs: le bit de signe, l'exposant et la mantisse. L'exposant est codé sur 8 bits en simple précision et 11 bits en double précision. La mantisse est représentée sur 23 bits en simple précision et 52 bits en double précision. Avant la représentation du nombre binaire en IEEE 754 il faut au préalable l'écrire en notation scientifique en laissant un chiffre 1 dans la partie entière.
