I recently spent the week with Honda UK's CRZ from their heritage fleet. My aim was to see if it was possible for a HYBRID to be Fun to Drive..... The answer????? YES, Yes you can. The 1.5ltr Honda CRZ isn't powerful and isn't very quick.... It has a 0-60mph sprint time of less than 10 seconds, and an emphasis on performance that has been missing from petrol-electric rivals.
I've officially reached a fork in the road with the Honda CRZ Project. From a non-running auction car to a clean daily, I'm undecided on what to do next. Sell it? Or continue to Modify it? So in today's video, I talk about the options and give it a needed oil change. Let us discuss. It's no secret that gas prices are high and the demand for Hybrids has gone up. The Honda CRZ is the perfect mix of fun, reliable, and gas saving. I never thought I would own a CRZ, yet here I am with a good example of one during this gas debacle. My goal with this car from the beginning was to fix it up from it's auctioned state, create content, and eventually...sell it. So is NOW the right time? Or do I continue down the path of modifying it to my taste? I admit, I have enjoyed every minute of ownership with this car. The ease to just "get in and go" is often overlooked in the car realm. To sell it soon, would feel like I abandoned an unfinished product. However, selling it while demand is high could mean more car options down the road for the channel. So, I wanted to create this style of video to weigh out the pros and cons and get YOUR thoughts on the direction of the CRZ. It's a tough call, but time could be ticking and I need to decide soon. Other than a 20 minute rant, we throw in some Techron Fuel additive to keep things fresh in the fuel system. I found that my old truck gained some benefits, so this auction car could too! From there we change the oil with the new Havoline Pro RS for a normal maintenance interval. Boxed like a fine wine, it made the oil change easy. Here's the fuel additive I used in this video! The Honda CRZ project begins with a cheap starting point of $2400! Bought at a police auction, my goal is to make this hybrid into something “cool” and more exciting. But, is this something I can pull off? The Honda CRZ was supposed to be a spiritual successor to the famous Honda CRX that dominated the early 90’s. But like many other disappointments, the CRZ was born as a hybrid. Buying this car I really didn’t have a plan in mind, but I knew I could work my magic to modify this thing to my liking. For $2400 I knew I could clean it up, add some mods, and make it something worthy of a clean daily driver. The story of this car is pretty good, but I’ll save that for a future video. In today's video, I give you a walkaround of the CRZ as well as a first impressions review. Honestly, I'm digging it! So what’s in store for this 2011 Honda CVT CRZ? My car builds begin with getting things to a clean starting point and going from there. I want to show you guys that you can make something clean and respectable (even with an automatic transmission and hybrid badge lol). Keeping budget in mind, I plan to restore much of this myself with the exception of a few larger jobs. This is no replacement for my 99 Civic, but think of it as a clean daily for my daily.
