Adobe has finally updated Premiere Pro, and now it fully supports Apple M1 Mac, the Native Adobe Premiere Pro Support. We expect to see some performance improvements and the render speed because before this update, using Premiere on Apple M1 Macs was a complete nightmare. We’re going to run three different tests on this Mac. We are also going to compare the Premiere Pro performance with the Final Cut and DaVinci Resolve performance on the same computer. We already know that Final Cut and DaVinci perform great on Apple M1 Mac, especially DaVinci Resolve, after its latest M1 update. I was one of the lucky ones to experience Adobe Premiere Pro Beta that was optimized for Apple Silicon M1. I was shocked at the performance of the M1 chip vs AMD. Even more with the shocking M1 vs Rosetta comparison. The M1 Premiere Pro Editing experience is amazing and its still in beta. Premiere Pro Beta was recently released for the Apple M1 chip and with the editing and export. I benchmarked the Apple Silicon M1 with AMD. Furthermore, it's a battle for the M1 vs PC comparison. Apple have announced the M2 chip, the next generation of Apple Silicon for Macs. And the M2 Chip MacBook Air is powerful enough to compete with the pro laptops and is perhaps the perfect laptop for filmmakers. Let me explain. So Apple launched the silicon chip M1 to a big acceptance back in October 2020, with the first generation chip named ‘M1’. And it looks like Apple have doubled down with the second-generation custom Mac chip architecture, unsurprisingly named the M2. M2 chip will arrive first in The brand new MacBook Air.And this could be a perfect laptop for filmmakers on the go. It's a small and light weight computer that is more powerful that the previous M1 MacBook air. Apple says CPU performance is 18% faster. You can now get 50% more memory bandwidth than M1, with up to 24 GB total RAM. There are also now 10 total GPU cores, with up to 35% better graphics performance than the M1. And it's 15 times faster than previous none M1 laptops. That's insanely fast! Apple says that the M2 chip can compete with high-end laptop PC chips at a fraction of the power, delivering 90% of the performance of a 12-core Intel CPU at a quarter of the power. That's impressive in my eyes. we also have the price. The new M1 MacBook Air is coming in at $1199 bucks and comparing that to the old M1 MacBook Air, they are keeping that at the $999 dollar price tag. Both are super powerful machines for sure. And then if you want to go a little higher, we have the M2 MacBook Pro at $1299 dollars. Not much to say here the M2 pro is basically the same as the M1 Pro but with a new chip. And it's only 200 dollars more with the macbook airs to get better performances, new webcam, better screen, new design. It's kind of worth it in my eyes. But how would the M2 MacBook Air fair with something like 8k footage in real time? Well, on their website they state, "Thanks to the high-performance media engine on the M2 chip, you can play and edit even more streams of 4K and 8K ProRes video 12 — including 4K ProRes video shot on iPhone 13 Pro.". And considering that the M1 has the capabilities to deal with 4K easily, 6k with a bit of lag and then the 8k with more lag but still useable, this one should be more comfortable as dealing with 8k video. But no hands on testing just yet so can't confirm that personally. And when it comes to 8k 10-bit c-log video. That's a lot of information to process.
