This is the updated Skoda Kodiaq! Now at first glance, you might think not that much has changed. And to be honest, you’d be right! Sure the front and back bumpers have been tweaked slightly, but otherwise, it’s pretty much the same car. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing! Once you step inside, you’ll be treated to a well-designed yet simple layout. Thankfully there are a number of physical buttons and dials on the dash, while you’ll also find soft-touch, high-quality materials throughout. Of course, you’ll also find a third row of seats here, too! Although unfortunately, they’re not available in the entry-level edition. In terms of engines, there are three to choose from, with the top of the range model being the vRS edition, which has a 2-litre petrol that’ll deliver 245hp. If you’re not in the market for a vRS, however, then you can still get the 2-litre petrol but it’ll put down just 190hp. So what do you think - is the Kodiaq still the best 7-seater for under £50k? This is the all-new Skoda Fabia! Now for starters, the new Fabia isn’t exactly unique. Once you get under the skin, it’s pretty much identical to a Volkswagen Polo or SEAT Ibiza! The question is, does this new Fabia offer enough to sway you away from its German or Spanish counterparts? Well, let’s take a look at what’s new. For starters, the exterior design has had a full redesign, with an all-new grille, LED lights and a huge ‘SKODA’ badge at the back. It’s also been redesigned to assist with drag, from the alloys and even the size of the side mirrors! We rate it so highly we awarded the Superb our Family Car of the Year title in 2020. To drive, it’s comfortable, quiet and relaxing whether you’re in the front or the back, and can even be hustled along at a fair pace. It’s easy to live with too, with a hatchback that opens onto an enormous boot. The practical interior has an upmarket feel, and there's a range of efficient and refined engines. With generous levels of equipment, acres of space and a pleasant driving experience, the Superb is one of our favourite cars on sale and with very good reason. About the Skoda Superb The Skoda Superb has been a cornerstone of the Czech manufacturer's range for much of its recent history. Underpinned by Volkswagen’s ubiquitous and effective MQB architecture, the latest model was facelifted in 2019 to bring it up-to-date – and to maintain its lead over the large family saloon (and estate) competition. The sales figures show that much of the car buying public are more likely to go for an SUV as family transport, but the Superb still holds strong appeal with its space, refinement and great value for money. Rivals such as the Vauxhall Insignia and the closely related Volkswagen Passat are no longer available, although the Mazda 6 is worthy alternative. The Skoda Superb was the first model from the Czech firm to benefit from the VW Group's MQB front-wheel drive platform. It's one of the largest models to use it, but from behind the wheel the Superb does a great job of hiding its mass. There are no complaints about legroom - the Audi A8 limo is about the only VW Group model to offer more rear seat space. The boot is very generous, too, with 625 litres on offer in five-seat mode, and 1,760 litres with the rear seats folded. And if that isn't enough space for you, then the Superb Estate is even bigger. But there's much more to the Skoda Superb than space. It takes Skoda's 'Simply Clever' slogan to heart, with the ubiquitous umbrellas stored in the doors, ice scraper in the filler flap, one-handed bottle-opening cup holders and plenty of storage. Safety kit is comprehensive, too, with all of the latest VW Group tech on offer. The Superb trim range comprises SE, SE L, SportLine Plus and Laurin & Klement (L&K) trims, and prices range from around £28,000 to £45,000. Entry-level SE models come well-equipped with 17-inch alloys, manual air con, electrically adjustable heated mirrors, cruise control, an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system (with DAB, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity) plus a suite of basic safety kit. SE L trim takes another step with 18-inch alloys, privacy glass, full LED Matrix headlights, extra safety kit and sat-nav with wi-fi capability, plus a number of other upgrades. Sportline Plus models focus on improving standard kit while adding a slightly sportier character to the Superb’s styling and interior, while Laurin & Klement models step on the toes of much pricier executive cars thanks to added leather, kit and Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) adaptive suspension. The Superb’s engine range was changed slightly in 2019. Today, there’s a similar mix of petrol and diesel engines, with the 1.4-litre petrol being replaced by the VW Group’s latest 1.5 TSI unit producing 148bhp. It’s available in SE trim and above with a choice of manual or DSG dual-clutch automatics and is joined by the more powerful 2.0 TSI with 187bhp, available on SE L models and up exclusively with a DSG ‘box. The fastest Superb models also use a 2.0-litre petrol, tuned to 276bhp and mated to a DSG gearbox and four-wheel drive for Audi-like all-weather performance. For those with one eye on economy, the 1.4 TSI iV plug-in hybrid might well fit the bill. The 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol unit is paired with a 113bhp electric motor, and combined the two systems offer 215bhp. The 2.0-litre diesel range no longer includes the 120bhp version, leaving the 148bhp and 197bhp variants. This is the new Skoda Enyaq! It’s fair to say that in 2021 electric SUVs are a bit like small, crossover SUVs have been for the past few years… They’re everywhere!! Almost every major manufacturer has an EV SUV available to buy, so does the Enyaq offer enough to stand out from the crowd? Well when it comes to performance, there are two options to choose from - the entry level ’60’, or the ’80’. They both come with RWD, and the 60 provides 180hp from a single electric motor along with a claimed range of 256 miles from a 62kWh battery pack. As for the 80, it’s also powered by a single electric motor, although this one offers 204hp, while the larger 82kWh battery pack will apparently provide you with 333 miles of range! Out of 1,800 applicants, 6 individuals were selected, with the goal of cycling through the whole of Sweden within 12 days. A mental and physical test of strength that pushes all limits. Follow the cyclists' intensive journey through Sweden in the documentary series in three parts. Objectively the Kodiaq is a strong and practical family hauler that’s well-suited to modern life with kids. But the fact that it has seven-seats and costs less than many of its key rivals makes it a really compelling answer to your new car question. Despite its attention-grabbing prices, the Kodiaq is anything but a budget car and feels a rung or two above the Nissan X-Trail, while on par with the latest Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe when it comes to equipment, quality, comfort and roadholding. Even the more expensive Land Rover Discovery Sport gets much closer to the mark, but still can’t match the Skoda’s practicality on the inside. It could easily wear a Volkswagen badge, for example, but it dramatically undercuts the Tiguan Allspace, while simultaneously providing more room and equipment. Only Peugeot’s 5008 and the Kodiaq’s close cousin, the SEAT Tarraco, offer similar flexibility and value for money. What’s it like inside? Skoda’s largest SUV can come with room for seven people across three rows of seats. The middle row slides in a 60:40-split formation, while a pair of adults will just about fit in the third row pair without too much discomfort. The boot is a good size even with the third row in place – more so than in its rivals – while folding the seats into the floor frees up a vast amount of boot space. Finally, extra storage areas are abundant in the Kodiaq, with two gloveboxes, large door bins, big central area beneath the armrest and extra options to aid flexibility available on the options list. What’s it like to drive? No matter which power source you choose, the Kodiaq is a big and comfy cruiser. But the engine makes a big difference. There are three petrols and two diesels to choose from. The lower-powered versions of each offer 150hp, jumping up to more powerful 190-200hp units that are available exclusively with an automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive. Skoda also offers a pokey vRS version for drivers seeking something quicker. Its petrol engine puts out 245hp via an all-wheel drive system and is capable of 0-62mph in around 6 seconds. Previously, vRS versions were diesels, but these were canned in 2020 due to emissions regulations. What model and trims are available? The starting point of SE Drive trim already comes with plenty of kit, including rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, DAB radio and a choice of five or seven seats.
